The idea for TeXcellence was born when a local schoolteacher recognized the need for students to have computer access in their homes. He began refurbishing old computers and placing them into the hands of students and their families. As the demand for these computers grew, a unique collaboration between the Education Foundation of Sarasota County, Inc. and the School Board of Sarasota County, Inc. was formed. The Education Foundation has made a substantial commitment of time and money to grow this program, while the Sarasota County School Board has committed to managing and ensuring that the maximum amount of students will be served.         The daily operations of the TeXcellence program are handled in the Office of Instructional Technology. As part of a five year educational technology plan, the TeXcellence program is helping to meet one of the main objectives of "making technology available anytime, anywhere, across all of our schools and in the homes of our students."
